Task 3 - Research Design

1    INSTRUCTIONS

2    LECTURE

Week 7 (04/06/2024) :

3    PROGRESS

Week 8 (11/06/2024) :

This week is ILW, so I started doing Task 3 based on the lecture notes provided by Dr. Jinchi.

Week 10 (25/06/2024) :

After a consultation session with Dr. Luqman last week, I did some improvements.

Week 11 (02/07/2024) :

Based on what Dr. Luqman told me last week, I fixed some parts in my work. After I finished it, the report is ready to be submitted.

4    FINAL SUBMISSION

5    FEEDBACK

Week 9 (18/06/2024) :
The RQ and RO are good. The first research method, questionnaire, is a bit difficult to do because you need to have at least 95% accuracy. The visual analysis is suitable for my research.

Week 10 (25/06/2024) :
My target participants for the questionnaire are too broad. In order to avoid any further problems, sir suggested that I do a focus group instead of a questionnaire. The second research method, visual analysis, is perfect for the first RQ and RO.

Week 11 (02/07/2024) :
The interview questions are good. However, question 8 should not be worded like that because diversity is a very touchy subject. Next, I should start working on visual analysis.

6    REFLECTION

Experience
This task takes a much longer time than Task 1 and Task 2. This is also very challenging as I had to do a lot of research based on the topic that I chose. Other than that, I also had to do an interview which isn't really that hard, considering I had my friends to help me.

Observation
I learned more about the flaws in the character design from Upin & Ipin. While the show is amazing, it's not perfect. I'm not the only one who noticed this. Even my interviewees thought the same thing.

Finding
Based on my interview, I noticed that some designs have problems because of their race. Since Upin & Ipin takes place in a multiracial country like Malaysia, the characters have to have different looks. That is difficult to do unless you do a research on Malaysians' appearance first before designing characters based on them.
