2 LECTURE
Week 05 (23/10/2024) :
Study the anatomy first before doing the design
Pay attention to the curves, perspective, folds in clothing and body shape
Does not have to be so curvy or muscular
Keep the design simple, yet unique
Can refer to Marc Brunet's designs
Week 06 (30/10/2024) :
Look at skull references when sculpting the head
The feet is divided into 3 sections, so it should have 3 shapes
The torso has to have landmarks. Must follow the shape of a ribcage
Start sculpting the hands and feet
Week 09 (20/11/2024) :
Female bodies are always shaped like this
Top part is bigger and more pushed forward
When sculpting, look from all angles to make sure it doesn't look flat
3 WEEKLY PROGRESS
3.1 Character designs
Week 05 (23/10/2024)
For task 1, we have to design a character that would be turned into a 3D sculpture in Zbrush. I chose to design 1 original character (Design 1) and Gogo from Big Hero 6 (Design 2).
Design 1 |
Week 06 (30/10/2024)
Both designs are ok. The first design could use some more details like patterns on the socks.
Design 2 is more funky, so proceed with this.
Fix the anatomy first.
Fix the proportion. The head is too big and the body proportion is off
3.2 Character Blockout
Week 7 (06/11/2024)
Fix the face proportions. More specifically, focus on the eyes
Follow the shape of a skull
When sculpting, look from various views, not just front view.
The chest has to follow shape of the ribcage.
Week 09 (20/11/2024)
Chest looks too sunk in. Must expand forward a bit (follow the shape of ribcage).
Hide the arm to show the shape of stomach and chest from the side.
Fix the shape of the thigh and hips
There should be fold lines where the thigh meets the hips
Make the thigh wider
The back of the knee should be a bit lower
The fingers are slightly too long
Divide the feet into three parts
Follow the guidelines
Fix the merged part (ankle)
