1    INSTRUCTION

2    LECTURE

Week 01 (23/04/2025) :
We will be using Teams as our main method of studying.
All submissions are done through Teams (not MyTimes).
All info about the assignments can be found in Teams.
Warm up by practicing drawing environments (interior and exterior).

Week 02 (30/04/2025) :

If you want to undestand perspective, can try doing a 3d model of your building.

Choose one perspective, then draw your building according to the perspective lines.

Look for an image online. Extract the building from the image. Create a brush with it, then create an environment using that building.

Come up with at least 3 silhouette sketches by next week.
Do exterior first. After that's finished, move onto the interior.
Focus on the building first, not the surrounding area.

Week 03 (07/05/2025) :

Week 04 (14/05/2025) :

3    WEEKLY PROGRESS

Week 01 (23/04/2025) :

I started by choosing a game. Like Mr Kannan said, we can combine our assignments from different modules. So, I chose to combine my Environment Design and Game Art assignments.

I chose the game My Little Pony: A Maretime Bay Adventure. I began by downloading the game and playing it from start to finish. After I understood the game, it was easier for me to design an environment for it.

I looked at a full gameplay video of this game on Youtube to screenshot some references that I would be using.

Week 02 (30/04/2025) :

I chose to proceed with Idea 1, the beach bar. I gathered a lot of references which consist of beach bars and Malay village houses.

Then, I did the first sketch to show my idea. I knew I wanted to create a two storey house where the upper level has a balcony outside while the bar is on the lower level.  I also wanted to make it high above the ground to avoid the sea water.

Week 03 (07/05/2025) :

This week, I explored more designs. I looked at more village houses and gained inspiration. I designed 4 silhouette designs of the beach bar house. Then, I used my favourite house design when I designed the whole beach landscape.

Week 04 (14/05/2025) :

This week, after finalising the silhouette for my beach bar house, I made the 3D model of it. I just made the base first, no details yet. After consultation, I'm planning on just sketching over the screenshots of the 3D model that I have.

Week 05 (21/05/2025) :

I sketched over the 3D model and added more small details like the windows, doors and roof. I also looked at the buildings in the game and used them as references when designing my beach bar house because I wanted it to fit in better with the game's style.

Week 06 (28/05/2025) :

This week, I explored the roof design. I had two choices. I could either make a completely unique design which has the Minangkabau theme, or I can stick with the game's theme and follow the buldings in the game's designs. I also played around with the colour of the bulding.

Week 07 (04/06/2025) :

After the feedback session last week, sir told me to combine both roof designs. So I did that and added the final colours. I also added more details in the background.

4    FINAL SUBMISSION

5    FEEDBACK

Week 02 (30/04/2025) :
If you want to proceed with Idea 1, consider combining it with another building, not just a bar.
For example, combine it with a village house.
Idea 2 is a bit difficult to come up with a unique design.
If you want, you have to choose a specific era and do extensive research on the era.
Think of how the characters are supposed to interact with the building.
Any NPCs or interactable items in the building?
How does the building fit in with the rest of the buildings in the game?

Week 03 (07/05/2025) :
To create unique house shape, imagine many blocks with different shapes and size. Use those blocks to construct a house. Mix and match it.
Make sure that when people first look at your sketch, they'll immediately know it's a hut.
Get references from international movies to understand global view so that people from all over the world can understand your design.

Week 04 (14/05/2025) :
Start looking at the function.
See how the house can withstand the weather in the environment.
Think of how thick the poles under the house needs to be to support a two storey house.
Extend the length of the house.
Make sure the house structure fits into the landscape.
Come up with composition, value and perspective. Can do it in 2d or 3d.

Week 05 (21/05/2025) :
The design looks off and doesn't match the game's theme.
Look for more variety of architectural references.
Extend the roof's width. Sketch over the 3D model.
Draw the details - doors, windows.
Add more shapes to the pillars, not just rectangle.

Week 06 (28/05/2025) :
See how you can incorporate the house in the game's universe. Make sure it matches the theme.
Take the picture of the 3D model, then draw over it.
Draw the surrounding area too (add trees, rocks, boulders, sand).
Think of whether the hosue can withstand the weather by the beach (hot and windy).

Week 07 (04/06/2025) :
Sketch 1 is good, but you can make the roof flatter and less curved if you want to match with the game's style.
Add rocks, trees, grass etc in the surrounding area.
Experiment with colours 2, 3 and 5.
Can start working on the interior.
